Man vs Military

Man vs Military.

While everyone has a different definition of success, one thing many people can agree on is that, in order to be successful, you need to work hard. You also need to find a way to balance your passion with your work life. In my case, that means balancing my passion for photography with my military service in the Navy. I will always love serving in the military, but I also have a deep and growing passion for photography.

I am lucky enough to have been exposed to both of these passions since I was young. i always admire my parents hardworking nature and love of adventure and they passed it on to me at a young age. From there, it was only natural for me to continue pursuing the passion as I grew up.

My mother instilled a strong sense of drive and determination in me from childhood and later taught me how to balance my passions while maintaining focus on schoolwork and athletics. While she still refuses to admit it, every once in a while I catch her looking through some of my photographs and smiling warmly at them (as if she doesn't want anyone else to know).

It all begins with an idea.

What began as a hobby has now evolved into a successful business. I was born and raised in rural Jamaica. I was always interested in photography but never considered it for a serious career. After high school, I moved to Kingston, Jamaica to attend college and just before graduating, I purchased my first digital SLR camera. That’s where my passion for photography really took off. With facebook and other social networks on the rise, I had the opportunity to share my photos with the world.

After graduating from college, I moved to the United States and continued taking pictures of anything that made me happy. It wasn’t until 2012 when my Brother passed away due to cancer that I realized how important it is to capture life’s moments while you still can. It was this realization that inspired me to pursue photography as a serious career. I began by attending workshops and seminars in order to better my skills as a photographer and even more important i recived amazing mentorship from a Great Jamaican photographer, Orville "DJ Pepsi" while also meet other like-minded people who were also interested in this field of art.

Today, Clayton Roach Photography is something more than just my profession; it’s become my passion. My goal is simply to inspire others through my work, especially those who may not have ever considered themselves photographers or artists before.
